Great questions! The wording on the website is written as such:

“Our prices are per household, so you only need to buy one copy of the language per household. Businesses get up to four users per copy that they purchase.”

This allows families who (usually) have a tight budget to work with to include everyone that is old enough to learn. Most families are around 4-6 people so even the largest families (like yours) can be comfortably provided for with that generosity. Businesses, however, usually have more than 4 employees, even hundreds or thousands in some cases. Businesses are also working with profit margins that must include proper training of employees for the position – this makes purchasing software a tax write-off and therefore an effective savings tool. In order to eliminate abuse by businesses the license is limited (very generously) to supply any employee an effective tool for a very small investment.

Hope this helps clarify the how and why families get ‘preferential’ treatment – because we are a family oriented business who believes in personal education we afford families a liberal licensing policy.

Hi. I have a question concerning how many people in a household would be able to use your software. In the FAQ section of this website it says that only one copy of software needs to be purchased per household, but that a business license only covers four people. However, your response to Teri’s question makes it sound like each package only covers four people, regardless of whether the package is bought for a household or a business. There are eight people in my household. I am interested in purchasing the All Languages Package and am wondering if this would give license to my whole family or just to four of us.

Both children would be able to learn quite a lot from Language101.com’s Spanish software. The main requirements for any user is a reading comprehension of English (unless a parent wants to sit and dictate the written words to the child), the ability to hear the lessons being narrated as well as a quiet place that they can study, preferably alone. Since each paid package comes with license for four (4) users both children and both parents could all learn Spanish simultaneously.

I homeschool my two children,ages 14 & 9. My son is going into 9th grade in August. I would like to know if it would be possible to teach both from this program? Spanish is the language of choice.

Great investigation work there! So many people get duped by great advertising campaigns – shiny packaging has visual appeal, it’s true! Those Pimsleur library tools will give you a great start in preparing for our Japanese release – with Language101.com you’ll also be learning to read the characters so having an idea of what the words sound like may give you some extra brain processing power to remember the shapes!

I just finished reading Makalla’s comment on the status of your Japanese software. Will you please let me know as well when your software is ready? I almost bought the Rosetta Stone Japanese today because of their Valentine special. I’m glad I decided to do a little more research. I believe my library has Pimsleur’s Japanese on cd. I will start there and wait for you email? Thanks!

Sounds like your drive to learn Japanese is a solid one! I’m sure you’ll have a great time in Japan with whatever level of language skills you are able to bring.

At this time our Japanese developments are not complete enough to release any lessons. I also cannot predict when the first of the lessons will be available to study. Our software is definitely a great companion for a formal grammar course. Not only will you be able to learn to write the language and pick apart its many aspects, you’ll learn to speak it faster once our lessons are ready!

hey i want to learn japanese and im 15. im trying to participate in a japanese exchange this summer, where we are raising the money to go. and im taking japanese in school but if i miss any time its hard to make up what they learned. and i was hoping to get something that might help me not only make up what i have missed but just help me learn the language. i saw in one of the answers to the comments you said you are going to relese japanese. i was wondering when that would be, if you know. and aproxamitely how much it would cost,because i mean i would love to get something to help but if it is too expensive then i cant. thanks for taking time to read this and i hope to see a response from you soon.

Thanks for asking! We are working on an English for Spanish speakers. In addition we intend to release a English for each of the foreign languages we offer. Although sounding like a seemingly simple task it actually takes quite a bit of time and effort to just reverse the translations. You can expect to see that sometime after we finish with Mandarin Chinese and Japanese for English speakers. I’ll be sure to send you an email when we can offer English to you!

Hi Brent,just thinking why you do not have english in your 101 lession format for learning to speak english.there are millions of mexicans who would love to learn to speak english corectly and I am one of them.you do not know the number of mexican children that are learning to speak english with mexican teachers that do not have the corect pronunciation of the language an therefore they loose a very great part of learning a language corectly.I belive you are loosing a vast area of oportunity by not serving latin america with an english version of your lessions.as you can see I read and write english very well but I need your help to speak corectly without an accent.

It’s great that you want to learn a language to be more involved with the population you live with. Our Spanish program is designed with Mexico City dialect. It is the dialect spoken in most of the America’s and the surrounding islands. With this software you’ll be starting to understand and converse with your co-workers more and more every day! The benefit you will notice is that they will see you making an effort and you’ll begin to pick up words and phrases from them as well, compounding your learning efforts with very little effort at all!

I live in southern CA in an area with a large population of spanish speakers and also where I work there are a large number of people that speak both spanish and english and sometimes not as much english and I’d like to be able to commnicate with them better. Also, sometimes if we’re in a group, they often start to speak spanish and I feel left out. I’d like to learn spanish to be able to converse with and understand native spanish speakers without having to take years of lessons. I will have spanish speakers that I can practice what I learn with. I told them that I want to learn. Will this program be able to accomplish that?

Your learning curve is completely dependent on how much focused time you are willing to put towards learning French. Language101.com recommends 30 minutes daily to learn a new language. It takes appx 4-6 months at that rate to complete an entire language series.
